Volcanic. Dark ruby. Intense, warm, volcanic(?) notes on the nose – rather un Pinot-ish. Lots of juicy liquorice fruit. Lots of fun, Very unburgundian! Just slightly lacking juice. Quite tannic. (JR)

The 2013 Pinot Noir Sun Chase Vineyard is the most intensely mineral of the 2013 Pinots I tasted, much of that coming from the use of 100% whole clusters, which seems to add quite a bit of energy, especially when comparing the 2013 to the 2012. Graphite, slate, crushed rocks and bright red fruit are all supported by beams of firm tannin. The 2013 finishes with substantial energy and tension, but it is also going to need time to soften.
