Tasting notes
The 2017 Arise, Blackbird's entry-level, Merlot-based red, is juicy and forward, which makes it very easy to drink now. Succulent red cherry, plum, mocha, spice and licorice are front and center. The tannins could use some bottle age to help them soften a bit.

A blend of 43% Merlot, 42% Cabernet Franc, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot, the 2017 Arise Proprietary Red features a deep garnet-purple color, offering up pretty plum preserves, spice cake and baked cherries scents with hints of eucalyptus, pencil shavings and fertile loam. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has plummy flavors and a firm, chewy texture, finishing a little rustic. 2484 cases were made.
Blackbird's 2017 Arise is a bold, racy wine. The natural intensity of the year comes through in the wine's super-ripe, candied profile. The 2017 is quite attractive, and probably also best suited to near and medium term drinking.
