70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot, 3% Cabernet Franc . Tasted blind. Good concentration on the nose and appetising balance. Edgy with quite a bit of acidity. A tad ‘modern’ but it delivers. (JR)

The 2014 Boyd-Cantenac has a more outgoing and expressive bouquet than its peers, a little heavy on the new oak that with aeration dominates the fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with bright red berry fruit, well judged acidity but lacking real complexity and terroir expression whilst the finish is short. Not a bad Margaux, but it does not merit superlatives. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

Tasted blind. Sweet and vibrant but very chewy and demanding. Needs lots of time and is a bit over-extracted. Rather exaggerated as opposed to fragrant Margaux. (JR)
