Full ruby-red. Very ripe, wild aromas of red fruits, brown spices and leather. Wonderfully thick, sweet and silky, displaying a seamless texture and a light touch to the flavors of raspberry and mocha. I would never have picked this very smooth wine as a 2013. Offers a lovely balance of fruit and salinity. Perfectly integrated acidity carries the sappy raspberry and brown spice flavors through a long, sweetly tannic finish. Captivating rising perfume here.

Bright, deep red. Highly nuanced, soil-driven aromas of raspberry, flowers, minerals, smoke, coffee and mocha are reticent and refined. At once silky and vibrant, projecting outstanding inner-mouth tension to the tactile, lightly salty flavors of raspberry, earth and spices. This wonderfully solid, chewy wine leaves the palate perfumed and vibrating.
The 2013 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru has a bold and intense bouquet with small black cherries, blackcurrant pastilles, orange sorbet and a touch of oyster shell. It is not that far from the Bonnes-Mares in style. The palate is medium-bodied with a tang of marmalade on the entry. This has superb structure and density, stylistically reminiscent of say, Laurent Ponsot’s Clos de la Roche, although without quite the scintillating precision on the finish. Still, this is a fabulous expression of the Grand Cru and there is wonderful salinity throughout.
