Tasting notes
From a south-facing coliseum-shaped vineyard (Hossfeld Vineyard) of very old vines planted in fractured rock, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Coliseum Block is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon that spent 30 months in French oak. It offers classic Cabernet notes of currants, smoked tobacco, cured meats, and spice. Full-bodied, rich and perfectly balanced, with a full, layered mid-palate and building tannin, it needs 4-5 years of cellaring and will keep for 2-3 decades. 300 cases.

Coming from the Hossfeld Vineyard, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Coliseum Block displays a deep garnet-purple color and a seriously earthy/meaty nose, conjuring notions of charcuterie and chargrill over a core of crème de cassis and preserved plums, plus wafts of tar and star anise. Full-bodied with intense black fruit preserves and savory layers, the muscular fruit is well framed by grainy tannins and appealing freshness, finishing with great length and depth. 280 cases were made.
