The 2016 Barbaresco Ronchi, the estate’s top selection, marries elegance with power so well. Freshly cut flowers, mint, sweet red berries, anise and blood orange confer freshness that plays off the wine’s dense, expansive fruit. A rush of sweet raspberry, cherry and rose petal punctuates the exuberant finish. The 2016 is a fabulous wine from a property that has been on the ascent in recent years. (AG)

The Ronchi 2016 Barbaresco Ronchi, packaged with a mustard-colored label, sees fruit from a single vineyard in the comune or municipality of Barbaresco, one of the various townships that make up the larger appellation of the same name. This wine is light in terms of structure and easier in terms of tannins, especially when tasted alongside Ronchi's classic Barbaresco. The Ronchi shows good definition in its bouquet, and blue flower and tilled earth are folded into the wine's dark fruit fiber. Spicy oak appears on the finish. This would pair with an aromatic mushroom risotto. Only 3,000 bottles were made. (ML)

The Ronchi 2016 Barbaresco offers a lot of intensity with immediate aromas that come from both the fruit and the oak. The wine ages in both botte and barrique for two years. It opens to a dark garnet color with cherry liqueur and dried blackberry. The alcohol content is measured at 14.5%, and you do feel it. There are background tones of spice, rusty nail and crushed stone. I am less a fan of the tannic management, as the wine ends on a slightly bitter note. Some 13,000 bottles were made.
