Tasting notes
Medium ruby. Notes of spices and violet lift aromas of black fruits, licorice, menthol and cocoa powder. Suave, rich and generous on the palate, showing a slight menthol/herbal vivacity to its dark berry, mineral, dark chocolate and licorice flavors. Strong mineral verve promises a long and graceful evolution in the bottle. The inky, building tannins are in sync with the wine's fruits and minerals on the slowly mounting back end. A very juicy style, and very Cabernet! This bottle struck me as more primary than the slightly meatier bottle that was part of a Stone Place vertical tasting two years ago.

(85% new oak): Medium ruby-red. Very savory, soil-driven aromas of tobacco, minerals, beef jerky and mincemeat pie; perhaps less about primary fruit than any other recent vintage of this wine. Wonderfully silky and plush, with compelling sweetness and suavity to its flavors of raspberry, dried fit, tobacco, minerals and truffle. Distinctly glossy, mouthfilling wine with suave, totally integrated tannins and terrific saline persistence. Made from a small crop of grapes, this sexy beast is deceptively drinkable today but may yet shut down in bottle.
(from 30-year-old vines planted to the See clone): Good bright ruby. Spicy aromas of cassis, blackberry, violet, minerals, menthol and bitter chocolate. A juicy, penetrating bomb of black and blue fruits on the palate but tightly wound and primary today. This impressive wine's tannic spine is going to require patience.
Juicy dark plums, chocolate, new leather and cloves are all wrapped together in the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon, a wine that stands out for its juicy, extroverted personality. Another wine that is absolutely singing right now, the 2010 is all about richness and seduction. Last year, the French oak was intrusive, but since then the wine has come together very nicely. Readers looking for a juicy, engaging 2010 Cabernet to drink with minimum cellaring will find a lot to admire in this striking, expressive Cabernet Sauvignon.
