Another outstanding barrel sample is the 2013 Syrah Toasted Rope. An interesting blend of 83% Syrah and a massive 17% Viognier that spent 20 months in 15% new French and Hungarian oak, it has tons of peach and violet characteristics (no doubt from the Viognier) to go with more plum, underbrush and dark fruit on the nose. Beautiful on the palate, with a supple, downright sexy feel, it's currently dominated by the Viognier component and it will be interesting to see how this comes together. I suspect it will impress right from the get go.
