The 2015 Pinot Noir Suerte Solomon Hills Vineyard is one of the riper, racier wines in this range. Succulent dark cherry, new French oak, kirsch, lavender and spice are all pushed forward. Much of the density has been achieved with some loss of detail and site-specific nuance, which is a shame given the pedigree of this site. The 2015 will appeal most to readers who enjoy plush, overt Pinots.

The 2015 Pinot Noir Solomon Hills Vineyard Suerte has a pale ruby-purple color and perfumed aromas of rose hip tea, potpourri and cinnamon stick over a core of Bing cherries and pomegranate, plus a waft of tilled loam. The medium-bodied palate has an ethereal texture and nature, with silt-like tannins framing the ever-changing glimpses of red berry and spicy flavors, finishing with great length and depth. Truly beautiful.
The darkest colored in the lineup, the 2015 Pinot Noir Suerte Solomon Hills Vineyard saw 15 months in 65% new French oak. It's a big, ripe, sexy effort that dishes up lots of cassis and strawberry fruits intermixed with notions of smoked earth, licorice and spices. Layered, pure and silky on the palate, it has fine tannin and a great finish. This textured 2015 is guaranteed to impress over the coming 7-8+ years. Paul Lato is unquestionably one of my favorite winemakers in the Central Coast, and I continue to love his wines. While I found 2015 to be a difficult vintage, you wouldn’t know it by tasting through this lineup.
