Tasting notes
Reminding me of a great Pessac Blanc, the 2020 Mekerra Proprietary White has ripe citrus, lemon, honeyed mineral, and exotic flower notes to go with a medium to full-bodied style on the palate. Brought up in 45% new oak, it has a serious, rich, concentrated style, integrated oak, and a great, great finish.

The 2020 Proprietary White Mekerra is a gorgeous, exotic wine. Orchard fruit, graphite, herbs, white flowers and bright citrus notes abound. There's more aromatic lift and tons of mineral character that releases in this super-expressive, nervous Sauvignon Blanc. Over the last few years, the Mekerra has trended towards a style that emphasizes a bit more freshness than in the past. The 2020 is one of the highlights of the year.
Melka's 2020 Mekerra Sauvignon Blanc, from the estate vineyard in Knights Valley, is 100% Sauvignon Blanc, barrel fermented and aged two years in oak. There's grapefruit, tangerine, hints of fig and melon, plus a subtle fumé-like character on the nose, while the medium-bodied palate is zippy and fresh. This tiny production doesn't go through malolactic fermentation, so the wine remains crisp, clean and refreshing on the long finish.
