Among the red wines, the 2010 Proprietary Red Alliance comes from a high elevation vineyard (nearly 2,500 feet) on Pine Mountain. It offers a beautiful bouquet of charcoal, black currants, underbrush, forest floor, flowers, lavender and coffee beans. Traversing the spirit of Bordeaux allied to the rich fruit of California, this 2010 possesses elegance as well as authoritative richness, good acidity, abundant complexity, immediate accessibility, and plenty of fruit and richness in reserve. Flavors of black currants, licorice, chocolate and coffee bean are present in this medium to full-bodied, elegant red. It is a revelation for Sonoma. Drink it over the next decade. This relatively new, interesting enterprise was created by May-Britt and Denis Malbec. Denis, who long worked in Bordeaux, has become an increasingly respected and sought-after wine consultant in Northern California. Consequently, it is not surprising that the Capture cuvees are strongly Bordeaux-influenced from philosophy and winemaking perspectives. Tel. (707) 395-0457

(a "Left Bank" blend): Good dark red. Aromas of plum, spices, mocha and coffee. Creamy in the middle, even a bit chunky in the early going, but with good lift to the flavors of plum liqueur, chocolate and dried flowers. Finishes with substantial but sweet tannins and very good length. Began less refined and elegant than the Harmonie bottling, but sweeter; then came together nicely with time in the glass.
