Domaine Dugat-Py's 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles is fabulous, soaring from the glass with notes of crushed blackcurrant, Griotte cherry, spice, bitter rose and sapid bass notes of grilled meat that segue into the wine's framing of new oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, deep and complete, with fine-grained, chalky tannins, immense concentration and the lovely line of acidity so typical of Les Evocelles—and so well-adapted to the balmy 2015 vintage.

Good dark red. Very ripe on the nose but more restrained than the Coeur du Roy, offering aromas of black cherry and nutty oak. Much suaver in texture as well, offering a silky fullness as well as a firming touch of minerality to its cherry, spice and mocha flavors. Better-balanced than the Coeur du Roy and less aggressive on the back end. This wine displays the depth of the vintage as well as subtle mineral complexity.

(80% vendange entier ; two-thirds new oak): Bright ruby-red. Tight aromas of black fruits, licorice, game and spicy oak. Larger-scaled and sweeter than the Pommard La Levrière, showing greater pliancy as well as a hint of rusticity. This is also longer, finishing with fully ripe tannins and a touch of minerality. Incidentally, although the Dugats have been farming organically since 2003, they were finally certified as bio as of vintage 2016.

70% whole bunch. 70% new oak. Meaty nose and very bright fruited. Smooth and super-charming. Very racy and lively. Great drive and energy. (JR)
