Score 89/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, May 2012

(blended with 15% cabernet sauvignon): Good deep red. Plum, bitter cherry and currant on the nose, complicated by dried herbs. Pliant plum and spice flavors are nicely lifted by good acid cut. The attractively dry-edged finish features building, dusty tannins and good lingering fruit. Without the make-up of new oak here, the variety comes through clearly.
