The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville (from Oakville Ranch) is stellar. The blend this year included 25% Cabernet Franc, which no doubt was a help in preserving freshness. Dark-fleshed fruit, espresso, lavender, licorice and cloves build in the glass. Dense and saturating, the 2015 has held up well.

I think this is the wine I have tasted (and enjoyed) before and noted that it contains 25% Cabernet Franc (though the information I am given today states 17%). Certified organic. Gosh, it’s very smart. Essence of Napa Valley Cabernet with none of the excess. I still see that little saline note on the end of richness but not sweetness. Light, dry tannins keep it in check. There is no alcoholic heat on the end. I’ve just compared this with Les Forts de Latour 2015 and prefer this. It’s richer and sunnier but not heavy. Heady minty note. (JR)

25% Cabernet Franc. Very hot days just before picking. Glossy. Rich with a savoury note – almost Marmite – on the nose and then some inkiness. A little more lifted than the 2013 with masses of tannin. Rich fruit plus tannins that are not yet integrated. Slightly dry finish. (JR)

The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Ranch Vineyard is a huge, full-bodied wine that captures all the natural intensity, breadth and volume of this site on Oakville's Upper Plateau. The significant presence of Cabernet Franc (25%), which is so unique at Oakville Ranch, gives the wine is super-distinctive aromatic signature. Time in the glass brings out the wine's beautifully layered, dark-toned fruit, but readers should be prepared to cellar the 2015 for at least a few years.
