Bright, dark ruby. Superripe, very Cabernet Sauvignon aromas of blackcurrant, graphite, dark chocolate and licorice, plus an enlivening whiff of black pepper. Plush, sweet and very concentrated, conveying an almost liqueur-like ripeness to its mouthfilling black fruit and dark chocolate flavors. Finishes with rich, harmonious tannins and excellent length. This is sweet and harmonious enough to enjoy right now but will endure on its concentration and balance. This wine has evolved very nicely. From rocky hillside vineyards.

(100% cabernet sauvignon): Aromas of blackberry, cassis, mocha and chocolate show an almost syrupy ripeness, along with accents of truffle, leather and roasted coffee. Then quite sweet but a bit bound-up in the mouth, with blackberry and peppery flavors complicated by a whiff of toasted rosemary. Today the wine's tannins are somewhat edgy and dry, but the finish offers good grip and length. There was very little fruit here, as the vines were affected by the late August heat spike.

Keever's 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon bristles on the palate with explosive aromas and flavors that conquer all of the senses. Vibrant, floral aromatics meld seamlessly into a gracious core of fruit as the wine opens up in the class. At once structured yet delicate, the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon is pure elegance and glass. Another year or two in bottle should help the tannins resolve a bit. Today, the 2010 is a bit closed because of its recent bottling, but it is impressive just the same.

Anticipated maturity: 2016-2030. Keever owns six acres of vines in Yountville. Jim Barbour looks after the vineyards while Celia Welch makes the wines. The estate’s 2009 and 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon were even more impressive than they were last year, while the 2011 is a strong effort in a challenging vintage. I am quite confident this small, under the radar winery will soon find a larger audience. All three wines I tasted were fabulous. Tel. 707.944.0910
