(14.9% alcohol; an 80/20 blend of merlot and cabernet sauvignon): Bright ruby-red. Black syrup, mocha and milk chocolate on the nose. Silky-sweet and nicely concentrated, with cassis and dried black cherry flavors lifted by licorice and spice notes. Easygoing wine but with shape and energy--and serious structure for a mostly-merlot bottling. Finishes with ripe, harmonious tannins and excellent length.
The Merlot-based 2010 Red Blend Hossfeld Coliseum is seriously beautiful. Expressive dark fruit, flowers and licorice all flow from this powerful, intense wine. Layers of fruit continue to build to the effortless, gracious finish. The 2010 stands out for its purity of fruit and phenomenal overall balance. The blend is 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon.
(80% merlot and 20% cabernet sauvignon): Good bright ruby. Sappy, liqueur-like aromas of blackberry and licorice. Sweet and plush, but given shape and lift by well-integrated acidity and a peppery quality. Finishes with youthfully tough but ripe tannins.
