Tasting notes
Reticent but superripe nose shows a slight porty quality. Sweet on entry, then very closed in the middle, with a strong peppery aspect. Today the wine's dark berry fruit is very much in the background. Finishes with chewy tannins and a continuing peppery flavor. I might have picked this blind as petite sirah.

One of the finest wines of the vintage in the Turley portfolio is the 2003 Zinfandel Dragon Vineyard. This is another Howell Mountain Vineyard that has produced 350 cases of wine (16.2% alcohol) that, aromatically, reminded me a of a superb Pomerol. Black raspberry, plum, and floral scents are accompanied by a deep ruby/purple color as well as exceptional black fruit characteristics intermixed with floral notes and a hint of minerals. This is a complex, full-bodied, opulently textured Zinfandel with purity and stature. (Release date 4/05) Tel. (707) 963-0940; Fax (707) 963-8683
