Score 92/100 · Drink 2016-2024, Robert Parker, Oct 2016
The 2014 Proprietary Red Papera Ranch Heritage includes an amazing number of varieties, all cofermented. The dominant grapes appear to be Carignan and Zinfandel, but there are Valdiguié, Petite Sirah, Syrah and others lurking in this moody, primordial blend. Loads of new saddle leather, dusty/loamy soil notes, pepper, lavender, roasted herbs, black raspberries, black cherries and blacker berries all jump from the glass of this dark ruby/purple wine. For some weird reason, I was thinking of Priorat in Spain. But don’t put too much into that wayward thought. Drink it over the next 5-8 years.
