Tasting notes
The 2017 Chardonnay River Block opens to gunflint and toast scents, along with dried flowers, lemon peel, red apples and quince plus touches of honey and hay. It's medium-bodied, rounded, intense and savory, with tangy acidity and a long, layered finish. This is stunning.

Slightly deeper colored than the base Rochioli release, the 2017 Chardonnay River Block comes all from an estate vineyard in the Russian River Valley and spent eight months in French oak. It is a richer, more powerful wine that has plenty of buttered citrus, sliced pineapple, brioche, and a hint of white flowers. Medium to full-bodied, with ample density and depth, it stays balanced, has good acidity, and a great finish. This is another classy, concentrated wine from this estate that's going to age beautifully. 220 cases.
The 2017 Chardonnay River Block is a rich, exotic wine laced with the essence of lemon confit, orange peel, mint, butter, chamomile and lightly honeyed and tropical overtones, beautifully woven together in an expressive Chardonnay that hits all the right notes. The River Block has an exotic quality to it that is quite appealing. This parcel is planted with Wente Clone Chardonnay taken from Steve Kistler's Vine Hill ranch.
