The 2016 Pinot Noir Estate Belay, here in its first vintage, is in fine shape. Kirsch, hard candy, tobacco, mint and crushed flowers are all nicely lifted in the glass. This has aged impeccably.

The first vintage for the Pinot Noir from the estate vineyard, the 2016 Pinot Noir Belay saw a small amount of stems (18%) and spent the standard 16 months in one-third new French oak. It throws the vine age debate into some doubt as it's a killer wine that has beautiful black raspberry fruit, crushed flowers, rose hips, and hints of soil. Supple, medium-bodied, and rounded, it's one of the more elegant, supple, and seamless in the lineup and offers incredible elegance and purity.

The 2016 Pinot Noir Estate Belay is a compelling wine. Readers will have to be patient, as the 2016 is going to need at least a few years to come together. Here in its first vintage, the Belay is a wine of real promise. Crushed rocks, chalk, mint, sweet floral notes and red berry fruit are some of the signatures.
