The 2009 Chardonnay Dutton Ranch Rued shows quite a bit of textural depth, in a round, polished style that is very appealing. The French oak gives the wine an additional measure of depth and volume to this extroverted Chardonnay. This is a voluptuous, creamy style that works very well.

The 2009 Chardonnay Dutton Ranch Rued shows quite a bit of textural depth in a round, polished style that is very appealing. The French oak gives the wine an additional measure of depth and volume to this extroverted Chardonnay. This is a voluptuous, creamy style that works very well. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017. Good full golden-yellow color. Rather exotic aromas of orange, honey, marzipan, lichee, rose and minerals. Very ripe but dry and serious, and a bit youthfully bound-up today. Highly aromatic in the mouth, with a distinct phenolic edge to the pineapple, lichee and marzipan flavors. Not a particularly fruity style. (Winemaker Morlet compares this wine to Peter Michael's Belle Cote.) Today the wine's floral and citrus oil terpene qualities clash with the new oak component. Give this at least a year to harmonize.
