Starting with the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Les Petits Morlet, it can be thought of as the entry level wine of the estate and is a blend of 75% or more of Cabernet Sauvignon with the balance Malbec, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. It offers a deep purple hue as well as a smoky, meaty bouquet of plump dark plums and currants as well as tobacco, chocolate, and earth. With full-bodied richness, a rounded, nicely textured mouthfeel, a touch of chewy tannins, and outstanding length, it's a terrific 2017 to enjoy over the coming 10-12 years.

The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Les Petits Morlet is a fabulous second wine. Inky dark red/purplish fruit, lavender, licorice and spice literally jump out of the glass. Rich and pliant, with striking textural nuance, the Petits Morlet is a huge overachiever in this range. The interplay of richness and energy makes for a compelling wine that can be enjoyed upon release.

This is Morlet’s “second” Cabernet Sauvignon label, produced from the barrels that didn’t make the cut for the final blends of the “grand vin” Cabernet labels. Very deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Les Petits Morlet gets straight to the point with bold cassis, baked plums and black cherries notes followed by hints of pencil lead, cedar chest and camphor. Medium-bodied, the palate possesses a fair bit of chew with a good core of muscular fruit, finishing with a minty kick. 470 cases were made.
