Score 92/100 · Drink 2024-2030, Matthew Luczy, Wine Advocate, Oct 2024

The 2022 Pinot Noir Lancelot Pisoni Vineyard is the most robust Pinot Noir in the lineup by a large margin. It opens with black fruited, amaro-laced aromas that pack a sizable aromatic punch. The palate echoes this with a massively rich, rounded texture that admirably retains class and elegance within the context of a decidedly opulent Pinot Noir. It concludes with dramatic saturation and sweet fruits, framed and balanced by the pleasant grip of its 20% whole-cluster fermentation. Similar to the Goldberg Variations Chardonnay bottling, this is as well-crafted as one could want, but it feels a bit monotone in the context of the truly superb Santa Barbara County offerings.

All destemmed and brought up in 65% new barrels, the 2022 Pinot Noir Lancelot Pisoni Vineyard is more closed and reserved yet blossoms with air, revealing high-quality red and blackberry-like fruits, some earthy mineral and floral notes, medium-bodied richness, a pure, focused mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and a great finish. This beauty has a terrific sense of elegance, as well as minerality, and it will evolve beautifully over the coming decade. It's an incredibly refined, elegant, seamless expression of this site.

The 2022 Pinot Noir Pisoni Vineyard Lancelot is soft, fruity and easygoing, all of which make it a fine choice for drinking now and over the next handful of years. Dark blue/purplish fruit, lavender and cloves open in the glass. The 2022 is attractive, but it is also rather one-dimensional.
