Good deep red. Deep, ripe aromas of strawberry, mocha and earth. Creamy, oaky and soil-driven, showing more earth tones than primary fruit. Less fine than the Brulees but showing more tension in bottle than it did in barrel in November of 2010. Finishes with dusty, slightly drying tannins and some obvious oakiness. The chunkiest of these 2009s today.

Very rich and weighed down by the vintage and ripeness much more than the 2010. Mossy and gentle sweetness. Very friendly and transparent. A little bit of muscle on the end. Closes up on the finish. (JR)

Deep red. Darker on the nose than the Clos d'Eugenie: blackberry, bitter chocolate, menthol and licorice. Then denser and sweeter in the mouth, with a strong black cherry flavor. A distinctly masculine, more aggressive style of wine that finishes with broad, dusty tannins and a slight alcoholic warmth.

From quite a way up the slope. Very dark crimson. A bit of sweet oak on the nose. Sweet fruit but not that much structure or grunt. Sweet, perfumed, a bit floral, but it doesn’t really seem to have a heart. I don’t think I would guess it were a Grand Cru blind. Although presumably one has to wait for it to mellow to show its best. All destemmed and quite fresh enough. (JR)
