Score 90-93/100 · Robert Parker, Dec 2010
The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon is the lightest of these three vintages, but it will undoubtedly put on weight as its siblings did. At present, it reveals beautifully pure fruit, velvety tannins and sweet black currant, charcoal, graphite, blueberry and earth characteristics. These are all fragrant, rich, concentrated stylish reds made from primarily Cabernet Sauvignon blended with Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. (Not yet released) This small, 12-acre, boutique operation on the south side of Diamond Mountain debuted in 2006 (awarded 91 points in last year’s report). Approximately 350 cases of this wine made by well-known consultant Martha McClellen are produced. Fax (707) 942-8512; info@checkerboardvineyards.com
