Tasting notes
Score 92/100 · Jeb Dunnuck, Dec 2011

Showing even better than a year ago, the 2007 Wind Gap Wines Syrah Sonoma Coast shows classic Syrah notes of cassis and blackberry fruit, crushed stone, game, and olive notes that give way to a medium-bodied, beautifully focused Syrah that has pure fruit, a silky, polished texture, and juicy acidity holding everything together. Seemingly, the most California in style - especially when tasted next to the '06 and '08 - with a polish and creaminess coming through with air, this opens up in the glass and should continue to shine for upwards of a decade.

(all whole cluster-fermented, from five different vineyards) Vivid ruby. High-pitched, seductively perfumed bouquet displays fresh dark berries, licorice, olive tapenade, incense and flowers. Fleshy dark berry and violet pastille flavors are given a firm edge by youthful tannins, which are slowly absorbed by the intense fruit with air. Gains power on the finish, with the spice and cola notes echoing. This textbook syrah is already delicious but is built to age.
