Notes of creamy rose and meaty, savoury elements with conifer accents, this wine carries darker red fruit hinting at the potential to brood while still offering lots of energy and interest. Will continue to evolve with age. Wants more air to open than the other Pinots from this producer. (ECB)

My favorite of the 2012 Pinot Noirs is the 2012 Pinot Noir Clos Platt, which comes from young vine material (all the Calera clone) that is organically farmed, and the wine includes 10% stems. The biggest, richest and most complete of these Pinots, it offers lots of spice, roasted meats, underbrush and forest floor characteristics along with full-bodied richness, a deep, beautiful fruitiness, and a savory, round generosity. It should drink well for a decade or more.

(8% whole clusters and 50% new oak): Ruby-red. Smoke- and spice-accented aromas of cherry and black raspberry are complicated by suave floral pastille and cola nuances. Silky, palate-staining dark berry flavors show excellent clarity and power, turning spicier with aeration. Concentrated and lively pinot with pliant, harmonious tannins that add shape to the long, sweet finish. Dark in character but showing distinct finesse; I like the blend of power and delicacy here.

Layers of dark red and purple fruit burst onto the palate in the 2012 Pinot Noir Clos Platt. Juicy, expressive and layered to the core, the 2012 is simply gorgeous today. Violets, cloves and menthol flesh out in the generous, resonant finish. The pure intensity of the Calera clone comes through beautifully.
