A blend of 60% Petite Sirah, 30% Zinfandel and 10% Carignan, the deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Lorenzo's Heritage features gorgeous crème de cassis, baked plums and blackberry pie notes with baking spices and earth nuances plus a waft of dried herbs. Packed with seductive black fruit preserves, the full-bodied palate is taut and muscular, with firm, chewy tannins and oodles of background freshness, finishing long.

The Petite-based 2016 Lorenzo Heritage Wine is another stellar wine from Teldeschi Ranch in Dry Creek Valley. Swaths of tannin enshroud a core of intense dark fruit, while hints of smoke, leather, tobacco and menthol add myriad shades of nuance. Powerful, brooding and explosive, the Lorenzo has a lot to say, but it also needs bottle age to be at its best. The Lorenzo's is a blend of Petite Sirah (and some mixed blacks, a block of Zinfandel planted in the early 1900s and a parcel of Carignane.
