Tasting notes
The 2021 Charmes-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru is reduced to three and a half barrels this year, half the normal crop. It has a complex nose with dark berry fruit, forest floor and pressed flowers, beautifully-defined and gaining intensity in the glass. The palate is (again) supremely well balanced, quite peppery, with a silver bead of acidity. Darker fruit emerge towards the saline finish that is quite Mazoyères in style. Long tail on the finish. Divine.

The 2021 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes is a beauty, bursting with aromas of plums and red berries mingled with violets, blood orange, sweet spices and peonies. Medium to full-bodied, ample and seamless, with a fleshy attack that segues into a layered, perfumed mid-palate, it's sensual and charming, built around melting tannins and succulent acids.
