Tasting notes
Savoy has become one of the region’s iconic vineyards. Planted in the 1990s on terraced deposits of river gravel and organically farmed. Spontaneous fermentation and malolactic conversion. 40% whole-cluster inclusion. No racking. Aged 16 months in one-third new French oak barrels. Unfined and unfiltered. Plenty of depth in the nose and palate with notes of mixed tobacco, wet leather, warming spices, dried blossoms and a backdrop of red cherries. There is a core of savoury concentration, a silken mouthfeel with lightly tactile tannin hiding in the background, and humming length. The wine alludes to longevity and a sense that it will do well with another year or two in bottle. Good potential. Enjoy with cooked mushrooms, grilled fish, even lightly smoked chicken. (ECB)

The 2019 Pinot Noir Savoy offers its typical depth and mid-palate pliancy. Time should help soften some of the angular contours that are present today. Succulent red cherry, spice, new leather, tobacco and a hint of new oak linger. I would give the 2019 a bit of time in bottle as the stems (41%) need to integrate.
