2009 Lail Cabernet Sauvignon Blueprint

(100% cabernet sauvignon): Good deep ruby. Cassis, blackberry, licorice and a slightly weedy herbal note on the nose. Bright, pure and suave, with an attractive fleshiness to the moderately intense blackberry and licorice pastille flavors. Today the wine's smooth middle palate is cut off by tannins: I'd hold this for at least another year before pulling the cork. There was a huge storm in mid-October of 2009, noted winemaker Philippe Melka, but 80% of Lail's grapes were in by then.
