Tasting notes
The flagship 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve checks in as 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot, 4% Malbec, and the balance Cabernet Franc, all a selection from the top lots, and there are a scant 500 cases produced. Aged 23 months in new Taransaud and Darnajou barrels, this dense purple-hued effort has a wonderful bouquet of cassis, green tobacco, chocolate, spice box, and scorched earth. Beautifully done, this powerful, full-bodied, incredibly concentrated Cabernet has fabulous typicity, flawless balance, building, ripe tannins, and just a majestic, multi-dimensional, layered style that's something to behold. It's probably going to merit a perfect score in 5-7 years, and I suspect it will have 30 years of drinkability.

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is positively stellar. Vibrant and energetic, the Reserve dazzles with its purity. Blackberry jam, chocolate, licorice, menthol, spice and graphite infuse the Reserve with tremendous intensity. Just bottled about a month before this tasting, the Reserve is a bit quiet today, but its breeding and pedigree are both evident. The core for the Estate is a block of Clone 7 Cabernet from the front of the ranch. This is the first vintage to include a dollop of Petit Verdot (8%).
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is a powerful, dense wine endowed with real vertical lift and explosiveness. From start to finish, the 2018 exudes class and persistence. Black cherry, raspberry jam, chocolate, mocha, leather, licorice and cloves infuse the 2018 with striking richness and unctuousness. The 2018 is of course very young at present, but it is also very clearly a positively stellar wine in the making.
