Tasting notes
A blend of equal parts Cabernet Franc and Merlot from a site in Carneros, the 2017 Red Wine H Block Hudson Vineyards has a ripe, plump, sexy style as well as classy notes of spiced plums, currants, dried herbs, and loamy soil, with just a hint of chocolate as well. It has ripe tannins, good balance, and loads of charm.

Made of equal parts Cabernet Franc and Merlot, the deep garnet-purple colored 2017 Red Blend H Block Hudson Vineyard offers baked blackberries, stewed plums, redcurrant jelly and blackcurrant pastilles with hints of sautéed herbs and tilled black loam. The palate is full-bodied, a little firm and rugged with an herbal lift to the mid-palate and a slightly rustic finish.
The 2017 H Block Hudson Vineyards is an intriguing wine for many reasons, including the very high (80%) presence of Cabernet Franc. Black cherry, espresso, grilled herb and menthol notes are all very nicely delineated. Not surprisingly, a fair amount of Franc character comes through in both the wine's flavor and structural profile. Today, the H Block is especially brooding and in need of time to fully come together, but there is terrific potential. In 2017, the blend is 80% Cabernet Franc and 20% Merlot.
