Tasting notes
An absolutely magnificent Chardonnay, the 2014 Chardonnay Wingtine comes from clone 4 from a relatively old vineyard planted in 1982 (the Charles Heintz Vineyard) in pure goldridge soils. This wine was aged 16 months in 30% new French oak before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. A brilliant Chardonnay, with loads of wet rock, honeysuckle, white peach, pineapple, poached pear and brioche, the wine is fabulous rich, full, and as it sits in the glass, orange marmalade/tangerine oil begins to emerge. It is elegant, full, authoritative and intense. These 30+ year old vineyards have definitely given Sussman some great fruit, and he has exploited it perfectly. Drink it over the next decade.

Radio-Coteau's 2014 Chardonnay Wingtine, from the famed Charles Heintz Vineyard, is a terrific example of that site. Chamomile, honey, apricot pit and wild flowers give the wine its characteristic texture, while the pulsating acidity that is so typical here keeps the flavors bright. I especially admire the freshness and energy of the finish.
