Given the incredible vintages in 2012 and 2013, it’s easy to overlook 2014, but the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve should put to rest any debate about the quality of this great vintage. Beautifully layered aromatics of red and black fruits, graphite, smoke tobacco, and chocolaty nuances define the aromatics, and it’s full-bodied, lush, opulent, and layered on the palate. This complex, elegant, utterly sensational 2014 can be drunk any time over the coming two decades.

The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. The color is an opaque bluish purple, and the wine has an exquisite nose of spring flowers, blueberries, black raspberries, graphite and forest floor. Stunningly rich and built like a skyscraper, but without any sense of heaviness, this is a multi-dimensional, profound example of 2014 and certainly one of the wines of the vintage. Drink it over the next 25 years, and if you have some discipline, push away thoughts of consuming it for at least another 2-3 years.

A rich, dynamic wine, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve exudes richness and intensity, and yet there is good aromatic lift as well. It will be interesting to see how things develop here. Layers of inky fruit build into the powerful finish. The 2014 could use another few years for the tannins to soften, but it is impressive and very nicely done.

A massive, dense wine, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve delivers serious impact. As with the 2013, the 2014 Reserve is heavily shaped by new French oak and the accompanying torrefaction notes. Today, the 2014 is raw and intense, but also not fully formed. Stylistically, the Reserve is quite a bit more powerful and virile than the Estate.
