Tasting notes
The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve (100% Stags Leap Cabernet) is tighter and more backward compared to the Estate release and has a rocking bouquet of black fruits, melted licorice, roasted herbs, coffee bean, and a whiff of dark chocolate. It too is ripe, powerful, full-bodied, and nicely balanced, with the structure to evolve for 15-20 years or more. This is one of the sexiest, plushest wines in the vintage.

The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is richer, deeper and more flamboyant than the Estate. Inky dark fruit, chocolate, licorice and spice all flesh out in an unctuous, extravagantly rich Cabernet Sauvignon that is sure to find many admirers. I have a slight preference for the Estate, but readers who prefer the more flamboyant side of Napa Valley will find plenty of that here.
Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is scented of prunes, baked blueberries, fried herbs and spices with wafts of tobacco, Chinese five spice and cigar box and touches of mocha and crème de cassis. The full-bodied palate is big, rich, plush, spicy and layered with a long finish. A good example of this style!
