Tasting notes
While just about impossible to find in the market, the 2019 Syrah is awesome stuff. Brought up in two-thirds new oak, its deep ruby/purple color is followed by a full-bodied, concentrated, yet graceful Syrah offering classic notes of black and blue fruits, smoked game, violets, lavender, and even a hint of iron. It has silky tannins and is perfect for drinking any time over the coming 10-12 years, if not longer.

The 2019 Syrah possesses tremendous density and volume. A rush of black cherry, plum, lavender, spice and menthol gives the 2019 its superb depth and textural resonance. All the elements are so well put together. In 2019, Austin Peterson blended the Syrah on the earlier side, which certainly seems to have helped in turning out a wine of exquisite beauty and harmony. I can't wait to see how this ages.
The 2019 Syrah really takes things to the next level. Inky, racy and beautifully savory, the 2019 boasts unreal balance. A healthy dollop of whole clusters (33%) exalts the purity and essence of Syrah, aromatic components that add so much to the opulent fruit that seems to come so naturally at Ovid. The 2019 obviously needs time to come together, but it is immensely promising in the early going.
