The 2017 Pinot Noir X Label has a spicy, complex, savory, almost Grenache-like bouquet of spice, red and black fruits, dried herbs, and forest floor to go with a medium-bodied, nicely textured, supple, savory style on the palate. This complex, meaty, almost gamey Pinot Noir will continue to dink nicely for 5-7 years.

2017 was known for being a warm vintage. However, the Aston Estate vineyard is well protected from excessive late day heat by the surrounding redwood and fir trees. The vineyard also benefits from morning coastal fog helping keep the maturation of the grapes even-keeled even throughout the warmest years. Aged in French oak (33% new). NHB. Unusually deep crimson for a Pinot. Fresh nose belies the colour and the vintage! Sweet palate entry splits the difference. Just a little too rich for my personal taste but well made. (JR)
