Score 94/100 · Drink 2006-2026, Robert Parker, Dec 2006

This impeccably made wine, the home project of two mothers, Lisa Behrens of Behrens and Hitchcock (now known as Erna Schein) and Francoise Peschon, Araujo Estate’s winemaker, is a 425-case blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Cabernet Franc. Fashioned from multiple Calistoga vineyard sites, it is a beautiful, deep ruby/purple-tinged wine offering notes of lead pencil shavings, sweet black currants, spring flowers, and subtle new oak. While built on finesse, elegance, and precision, it reveals abundant flavor intensity, power, richness, and length. Drink this impeccably symmetrical, complex 2004 over the next 15-20 years. Good deep ruby-red. Currant and licorice on the nose. Suave on entry, then a bit porty in the middle, with cough syrup and dark chocolate dominating. The fairly substantial tannins come late, allowing the wine's lush, primary, chocolatey finishing flavors to expand and linger.
