Now approaching maturity, the 1988 Mayacamas Cabernet Sauvignon is a very pretty wine. It still has quite a bit of depth, although the edges are starting to fray. Dried herbs, tobacco, smoke and iron add layers of nuance. I have had better bottles of this.

Transparent and lively with a great undertow of something mineral. Very much of the Napa Valley old school. Great balance and personality – obviously a terroir-driven wine. Dry finish after ripe but certainly not super-ripe fruit. Bravo! (JR)

The 1988 Cabernet Sauvignon is insanely beautiful tonight, and very, very young. Firm tannins give the 1988 its spine and sense of proportion. Layers of dark, savory-infused fruit fill out the wine’s frame in an epic Cabernet that will drink well for another 20+ years. (AG)
