Score 17/20 · Drink 2027-2040, Julia Harding MW, jancisrobinson.com, Dec 2018

100% new oak. Barrel sample – already racked from barrel to barrel. Again that ripe, sweet black fruit on the nose, but tangy like tiny wild black berries. Not fat at all even though it is rich. A touch smoky from the oak but not dominated by it. Damson and elderberry. There’s tension on the palate even with all this fruit, a dark-fruited freshness. Tannins are chewy/chalky but close to supple. Needs time to release on the palate what is already there on the nose. Long and robust but not aggressive. (JH)
