Score 87/100 · Robert Parker, Aug 2002

The dense ruby-colored 1999 Pinot Noir Russian River (700 cases) is a blend from such vineyards as Rochioli, Allen, and a handful of others. It spends 11 months in oak, whereas the single vineyard cuvees see 14 months. It exhibits sweet cranberry and cherry fruit, a hint of new oak, crisp acidity, and an elegant, medium-bodied finish. Lively, youthful colour, not especially deep. Quite wild and young-tasting still with some trace of carbon dioxide. This Sonoma County blend lacks the intensity that was the trademark of this winery before being sold to the current owner. Single vineyard bottlings (which will be even more expensive) not yet available in the UK. (JR)

Medium red. Aromatic nose combines cherry, raspberry, mocha and spicy oak. Sweet and supple, with modest depth of flavor but good freshness. Finishes with a slight edge of acidity.
