Fruit sourced from Foss, Calegari, and Lewis MacGregor – all along the Eastside Road, which sees budbreak, flowering and ripeness two weeks earlier than the Westside. Aged for 14 months in 74% new, 26% one-year-old French oak. pH 3.46, TA 5.9 g/l. Pale ruby in colour, with a purple hue. Quieter and more closed on the nose than the Sonoma Coast bottling but with far more power on the palate. Cola, toast and sassafras. Heavy palate, with earthiness and stemmy spice. Fine, soft tannin structure, with high levels of broad acidity. Blue-fruit coulis and dried orange peel on the finish. Much less noticeable oak than the Westside and the Williams Selyem Estate bottlings. (SCJ)

A semi-opaque ruby, the 2021 Pinot Noir Eastside Road Neighbors has a darker mineral profile and is rounded with ripe pine, black cherry preserve, violets, and sassafras. Medium to full-bodied, it has ripe tannins and a supple texture, as well as a long finish. Revealing notes of ripe black raspberry, cinnamon candy, and tea leaf, it’s ripe and elegant, with great purity on the palate. It has a lot of charm to drink now, and it will continue to drink well over the next 10 years.

The 2021 Pinot Noir Eastside Road Neighbors, matured for 14 months in 74% new oak, is expressive even at this early stage. Wild blackberries and pomegranate unfold to tea leaves, pipe tobacco, licorice and graphite as it airs in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied, chalky and seamless with concentrated yet understated fruit, and it has a very long, spicy finish. Give it 3-5 years in bottle. 1,795 cases produced.
