Tasting notes
A rich, ripe, showy style, with a still youthful and caressing wave of dark currant, fig and blackberry compote flavors that rolls through, laced with apple wood and violet notes, though they stay decidedly in the background. The licorice-coated finish lets the fruit keep the upper hand while a hint of loam adds a subtle grounding note. Approachable for its fruit but still has some unwinding to do. -- Blind 2015 California Cabernet retrospective (July 2025). 550 cases made.

Part of the Bond estate and from the Spanish word for neighbour, Vecina is located directly south-east of the Bond winery. With volcanic, east-facing, terraced slopes in Oakville’s western foothills, this site receives both the morning sun and the fog. The first vintage of this property was 1999. Deep ruby colour. Sweet and plush on the nose, with plenty of cassis and baked spices providing ample intensity. The palate is silky, smooth and fine but has good acidity given the vintage. There is a little anise and fresh leather, adding an exotic touch to the fruit. Ripe, bordering on baked dark fruits dominate the mid palate. Plush and modern but not over the top, with a long, plump finish.
Also pure perfection in a glass, the 2015 Vecina comes from an east-facing site located not far from the Harlan Estate. It was previously a terraced vineyard but was replanted when they opted to remove the terraces 7-8 years ago. Totally thrilling notes of crème de cassis, lead pencil, barbecue, white chocolate, and spring flower notes all flow to a full-bodied, powerful wine that has building tannins, no sensation of weight, hints of background oak, and incredible intensity and length. It’s a true “wow” wine that could not be better. Don’t miss it!
Bottled in early 2018, the 2015 Vecina is deep garnet-purple in color, with baked blackberries, black cherries and blackcurrant cordial aromas that leap from the glass with nuances of roses, pencil lead, menthol and mocha. The palate is full-bodied, very fine and incredibly seductive with a solid frame supporting the generous layers, finishing long and exotic.
