Tasting notes
There are a substantial 1,100 cases of Seavey's 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate, which is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged 20 months in 65% new French oak. Much like the Caravina bottling, but more intense and structured, this is classically proportioned, with cedar and cocoa accenting ripe cassis fruit. It's full-bodied, rich and velvety, with a long, vibrant finish, a truly excellent wine.

The flagship 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is brilliant and reminds me of a top Saint-Julien. All Cabernet Sauvignon aged in 58% new barrels, this medium to full-bodied effort is pure class, offering ample cassis fruit as well as notes of lead pencil shavings, leafy herbs, graphite, and damp earth. Perfectly balanced, with ripe, silky tannins and a great finish, it’s one of those wines that already offers immense pleasure yet has the capacity to evolve gracefully for 25-30 years. Bravo!
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Seavey Vineyard is sumptuous, inky and explosive yet retains the structure that makes the Seavey wines so distinctive and compelling. Red/purplish fruit, spice, leather, tobacco and a touch of new oak all meld together in this effortless, absolutely compelling Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2019 is positively stellar.
