Tasting notes
The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon retains the vineyard's signature of dusty loam and dried spices overlain on a bed of cherries, black ones in this heat-influenced vintage. It's full-bodied and velvety, perhaps a little bit coarsely textured overall but concentrated, long and flavorful.

Fermented on skins for 22 days before pressing in a basket press. Matured 20 months in French oak, 80% new. Unfined and unfiltered. Deep purple. Oaked to bejesus – toasty and sweet. Sweet dark-cherry fruit. Chewy and dense with sticky tannin. Very long with enough freshness to cut the richness and draw out the finish. (SCJ)
From a vineyard that excelled in the vintage, the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard reveals a deep purple/ruby hue as well as brilliant aromatics of darker currant and cassis-like fruits interwoven with spicy, incense, and floral nuances. It's full-bodied, has a plump, layered mid-palate, sweet, soft tannins, and a great finish. The blend is 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc.
The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon is the only wine Tor Kenward and Jeff Ames made from this site in 2022. It's one of the best wines from To Kalon I tasted. Succulent dark cherry/plum fruit, spice, new leather, licorice, pomegranate and leather race out of the glass. The 2022 possesses notable textural depth and intensity, both hard to come by in this vintage.
