Saturated deep red. Roasted redcurrant, raspberry, tobacco and warm earth on the nose, along with an exhilarating component of exotic spices; this reminded me of the extraordinary '89 Haut-Brion and La Mission. Thick, dense, huge and sweet but with excellent verve. A fleshy La Mouline that's packed with flavor. Finishes extremely long and sweet, with substantial ripe, chewy tannins. (ST)

Very deep. Medium evolution. Very very rich and exciting. Great depth of flavour. Not that intense. Hints of liquorice. Lovely, dense, rich and melded. A whole wine. (JR)

Very very dense colour. Tarry, dense and chunky nose – unformed. Lots of flesh with a very, very dense undertow of structure. Lots of tannin and acid. Very gorgeous. Very advanced and seductive. The only one of the 1989 LaLas in this tasting you could think of drinking now. Long. (JR)
