Score 97/100 · Drink 2021-2041, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Apr 2023

The 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Martha’s Vineyard is a super-classic, old-school wine. Silky, deeply perfumed and exceptionally well-balanced, the 2001 hits all the right notes. Red-toned fruit, orange peel, spice, game, tobacco and licorice open with some coaxing. Readers lucky enough to own it can look forward to another 15-20 years of fine drinking, maybe more.

Very deep purple. Some lift and luscious fruit. Very sweet and full and minerally. Some evolution. Big and blustering with resolved tannins and a hint of dustiness. Not formulaic. Is there more Merlot in this than most? Blind guess: mountain. Revealed location: valley. (JR)
