Foul barnyard aromas have long beset this wine, which otherwise shows a good, dark ruby color, ripe, savory fruit, moderate tannins, and a decent finish. I had once hoped that time would cause dissipation of the stinky smells, but they have only gotten worse. Last tasted, 10/83.

Ch. Léoville-Poyferré is a Second Growth Saint-Julien property that was once part of the same estate as Ch. Léoville Barton and Ch. Léoville Las Cases. It has the most complex and varied soils of the three and produces the most voluptuous, seductive style of wine.
