Tasting notes
The 2021 Ovide Jack's Vineyard opens in the glass with a perfumed blend of dusty violets, stone and wild blueberries. Its silken textures soothe the senses as tart red and black fruits slowly saturate, all guided by a stream of cooling acidity. Hints of orange peel and clove mingle with dark chocolate as this finishes long and lightly structured.

The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon-Syrah Ovide checks in as 73% Cabernet Sauvignon and 27% Syrah that spent 22 months in oak. It has a smoky, complex, Graves-like style in its red and black fruits, as well as notes of cold fireplace, roasted herbs, and chocolate. It's a full-bodied, deep, rich, mouthfilling effort with velvety tannins and a great finish. Drink bottles over the coming 15 years. The big news for K Vintners is the departure of winemaker Brennon Leighton, who has worked side by side with Charles Smith for years now. The departure was announced after my visit and tasting, so I’ll report on this winemaking change next year. This report looks primarily at the 2021s from K Vintners, which is clearly a strong vintage for the estate.
